chicago land of miracle

I was very excited to learn which four cities cleared the first hurdle in the long-distance race to the 2016 Olympic: Chicago, Madrid, Tokyo, and Rio de Janeiro. Officially, of course, I’m backing Chicago: it’s home turf for the American team, a world-class city, and close enough to New York that I can dream about attending. Unofficially, it was sweet to see Rio on the list, as I fell in love with the place earlier this year and had the privilege of chatting with one of the city’s Olympics-bid organizers on my trip there.

It was on a flight from Salvador to Rio that my seatmate heard my American accent and struck up conversation about my visit. It turned out that she used to work in Brazil’s tourism office and is now working to bring the Olympics to Rio. So while I generally try to assume my I’m-too-busy-staring-off-into-space-to-chat look on planes, my inner Olympics geek took over and I spent the remainder of the flight asking her questions about the city’s bid and its chances.
I was shocked to learn that South America has never hosted an Olympics. (Truthfully, I was shocked to learn that Rio has never hosted; I could’ve sworn I’d heard stories from Rio ’64 or another year in that era. Apparently not—those Games were actually hosted by another 2016 hopeful, Tokyo.) It seems surprising, as I associate that continent with competitive sports more than any other. And thanks to its devotion to soccer, volleyball, and other sports, Rio seems to have plenty of existing and planned venues for events. I can also imagine Brazil’s people and culture injecting a unique passion into festivities (come to think of it, I should have posed questions along those lines to the Brazilian music legend and Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil, who was, coincidentally, also on that flight).
Wherever the Olympics go that year, I’ll probably make an attempt to follow. And in the meantime, there are Beijing; Vancouver; London; and Sochi,Russia, to investigate.

So basically, I think Chicago should host the Olympics 2016 which will help to progress overall Economy of United States of America and which will also generate the job for many people in United States.

chicago leading to become host for olympics

Although the host city of the 2106 Olympic Games won't be decided until 2009, in Copenhagen, Denmark, the competition already appears to be hotting up.Seven cities have confirmed bids, including a very interesting mix. The cities are:Baku, AzerbaijanChicago, USADoha, QatarMadrid, SpainPrague, Czech RepublicRio de Janeiro, BrazilTokyo, JapanHoward Bloom, of Sports Business News, suggested last year that in 2016 it would be the turn of the Americas to host the Olympics, and that it would not be hosted in Brazil as they are hosting the FIFA world cup in 2014. Is that just the view of one man, or that of a US-centric media? Surely if it was such a done deal there would be little point in anyone else bidding? What really are the politics involved? As refreshing as it is to see Qatar, the Czech Repubic and Azerbaijan bidding, I can't see them being contenders, and maybe it is unrealistic that Europe will be given the games twice in a row. Then, by the same logic, will it be too soon for Japan to have a realistic chance? So there we go. Back to the Americas. Will the FIFA world cup hosting really have an influence on Brazil's chances? If they do, then we are back to Bloom's prediction: Chicago.(I wonder, if there is more than a token competition, what the 'hook' will be that the winners use - like London's legacy for youth?)

Doha, Prague and Baku were eliminated from the nominal list of potential hosts by the IOC executive board.
IOC president Jacques Rogge said: "All bids were of a high standard. It's a tribute to the health of the Olympic Movement that the field was so strong."
The IOC will select a winning city at a secret ballot on 2 October 2009.
The strongest contender in terms of infrastructure, support and money is Chicago, which is bidding to host the first summer Olympics in America since Atlanta in 1996.
The Americans will however have to improve the technical aspect of their bid after an IOC evaluation report ranked Tokyo and Madrid higher than Chicago, with Rio in fourth place.

Many will tip Chicago but favourites don't often win
BBC sports editor Mihir BoseChicago's bid chairman Patrick Ryan said there was plenty more work to be done to improve their bid.
"Four cities is better than five," he said. "Three would have been better than four. But we're very proud to be one of the four. It's exhilarating.
"There are a few things we've learned - don't assume anything, be humble, and work, work, work. And we're going to work right to the end."
Rio de Janeiro, host of the Pan-American Games in 2007, would be the first South American city to host the Olympics.
Madrid, meanwhile, is bidding on the back of finishing a close third behind London and Paris in the race for the 2012 Games, and Tokyo hopes to host the event for the first time since 1964.
"We are very happy with the decision by the IOC," said Tokyo bid chief Ichiro Kono.
"We are also delighted with the evaluation but we have not seen it yet and we must now analyse it very carefully to strengthen our weak points and make our strong points stronger."
Doha, the capital of Qatar, successfully staged the 2006 Asian Games and was regarded as a wild card but the city failed to make the cut despite having hired a high-powered team to run the campaign in the hope of making it to the final vote in Copenhagen.
Some of the IOC's executive board members had argued that a city with a population of around 500,000 was too small, while Doha's plan to hold the Games in October to avoid the searing summer desert heat proved unpopular.
"The weather was the main reason we were left off the shortlist," said Doha bid official Aneesa Al Hitimi.
"Qatar are the leaders in the Middle East and we would have staged 2016 perfectly. God willing, Qatar will make it in the future."

The Olympic and Paralympic Games bring together the most incredible array of athletes from around the world, testing their awe-inspiring athleticism on a global stage. These athletes compete together as one in the spirit of the Olympic ideals of excellence, fair play and the joy found in effort. Chicago 2016 appreciates those athletes who make the Games possible and represent the catalyst for the world's greatest sporting event and celebration of humanity.
Chicago is competing against three other cities for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games: Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, and Madrid. The International Olympic Committee will select the winning city on October 2, 2009.
